Between Mountains

Celebrating Story Telling and Lore.

This series of artworks are based on stories told to me on the 10hr return journey between Mt Wellington and Mt Owen over a 20 year period.
These are Folklorish stories based on growing up on the West Coast of Tasmania during the 1930s-1960s.

I have always been fascinated by folklore/folkart, it is the fabric of our everyday life and it is what makes life feel more enchanting.

The works are imbued in history and evoke feelings of nostalgia. I have used vintage papers and textures sourced from my families journals and albums, the material itself already contains a story and by layering handmade print textures I am able to add some authenticity and continue to pass these stories onto the next generation.

The final image shows hand cut Tetra Pak stencils for dry point/collograph printing along with vintage images from my personal collection. Textures are Handmade then combined in a digital composition.
